As a distributor for a MNC product, I have to report to ASM – who constantly stalled my business other than Madurai -by showing some rules or other. I got fed up with this and started to change as multi-brand dealer as I have my own set of clients. Due to my technical competency the brand I gave became immaterial for them – and slowly product for purpose evolved as business model. This went on for more than one year and so slowly the need to contact him or remember him subsided. But I was fuming whenever I hear about him or see his name in meetings or agenda.
Few days back, I had an urge to reply for one of the devotee’s post. Initially I had an apprehension – because many of my earlier posts – though purely only based on Sri Karmayogi’s articles- got wrath from him, particularly which touched sensitive points of mythology, customs, and traditions. To further that, he asks only two people to respond for that – meaning that I should not reply.
But this time I thought OK he has raised a good topic and I have a good idea on what Sri Karmayogi says about it, so let us participate in the thread. As expected, “the devotee” stressed his points. This time instead getting into – “I told you know” mood, I tried to elaborate my view and said sorry, if it disturbs or diverts his views.
The next day – I received a call. When I saw the (earlier mentioned) ASM’s number – the first thought came to my mind was why he is calling and for what trick he is upto, and I have to be cautious. But to my surprise he called me by name and said he has a good order for me in Trichy region, which is not my area. I could not believe his word and so I asked why this and is there any hidden agenda of price war and should I quote or supply for less. He said no! It is purely good will gesture as some moments back I felt I have made injustice to you and for this contractor you are going to supply more than 20% of your rate I have nothing against you and let us be friends. Now he has permitted me to supply wherever distribution rights are not given.
Though I was happy on turnaround of events the question lingering in my mind was:
In past one year I have changed my attitude consciously in many fronts – which didn’t bring any of instant result like this – though I got belated life response in those cases. But here it is purely unconscious change. What made the difference to bring a instant result with a possible seed to wipe off all my opportunity loss that pertains to that brand.
The answer another Devotee gave for that was:
You controlled ego bruise, overcame some irritation or frustration, remained open and tolerant, saw the other person’s viewpoint, etc. It was a live wire, and occurring on a powerful forum where powerful vibrations are afoot. The dramatic response came in its wake.
It is notable that the shift from partial ill-will or frustration to goodwill attracts the goodwill of an adversary.
Business dealings involve so many expectations from our side, need for funds, etc. etc. Here it was straightforward goodwill for someone you already had goodwill for, but had forgotten the fact temporarily.
Also, it should be pointed out that the change in attitudes that were developed over the entire year sometimes manifest through a different situation of shift to a higher consciousness. Perhaps we can say that the positive in the subconscious is alive, though seemingly dormant, and is energized by another situation.
