Essence of Self Realisation

For a question by a Devotee on self Realisation:

Self-realisation according to traditional yogic words gives different meaning. But I see all spiritual words of Bhagavan Sri Aurobindo as inferred by Karmayogi -irrespective of what it actually means. Also, my ways are to look for practical applicability of the same in life either to evolve in consciousness or in prosperity.

Unlike the tradition here ultimate self-realisation is defined well. That Is – we are the Brahman or Brahman took our human form to enjoy certain Bliss. So all happenings are His play, He is the player, He is the playground. So seeing everything with detachment, with cheerfulness, as Thy WILL, not taking anything into to physical, mental, vital forms and attributes of ego. Everything to be taken as Ananda of the soul. Difference between the Bliss and Ananda and its realisation is self-realisation in practical life.

That is Bliss is of the Divine and Ananda is of the Spirit (Brahman in our Being). So the level of values (manifesting aspects in the Mother’s symbol)- derived as values of life and implementing the same in life, is the Ananda of the Spirit, is the realisation we need.

Its first form is knowing the essence of every happening and seeing its whole. For example, we say consecration, which means that, we ask or let Mother to act and accept whatever comes – even failures, sorrows, pain as Ananda. But in practice we think our prayer as consecration. We lose its essence, its whole and resultant Ananda.  Similarly, we say surrender. It is way above the consecration. But we don’t understand it is only unconscious submission in situations which we don’t know what to do. Similarly, we can realise the whole behind everything. For example, Rasa is the whole behind eating and taste. Energy is the whole behind yawning (not tired or sleep as we think).

So, we have to realise first that we are not even different from animal, that is we are just physical in everything under the clutches of its senses. Realising that and allowing our spiritual element to take over our life, our acts, our thoughts, our motives is the conscious attempt to realise our self in this yoga.  This is the act of self-knowledge self-Discovery leading to self-realisation. Tt is defined in synthesis of yoga – as delight of knowledge, emerging from ignorance – which is Leela of Brahman- Bliss of real idea of Brahman.

தன்னையறிவது என்பது உள்ளுறை  ஞானத்தைப் பூர்த்தி செய்வது. Hastening the realisation by lending our will to the Divine Will.

The following is the answer Mother gave to a child for a similar question:

Now we are going to try to find a definition – for realisation- which can fit all instances, that is, the individual, the collectivity, the earth, and the universe. We may say that perfection will be attained in the individual, the collectivity, on the earth and in the universe, when, at every moment, the receptivity will be equal in quality and quantity to the Force which wants to manifest.

That is the supreme equilibrium. Hence, there must be a perfect equilibrium between what comes from above and what answers from below, and when the two meets, that is perfect equilibrium, which is the Realisation —an evolution in constant progress.

When you are absolutely sincere, you make a constant effort to live in harmony with the highest ideal of your being, the truth of your being. At every moment, in all that you think, all that you feel and all that you do, you try as perfectly as possible, as completely as possible, to put yourself in harmony with the highest ideal or, if you are conscious of it, with the truth of your being—then you have reached true sincerity. And if you are like that, if truly you do not act from egoistic motives or for personal reasons, if you act guided by your inner truth, that is, if you are perfectly sincere, it is absolutely the same to you whether the whole world judges you in one way or another – you are a self- realised individual.

If you still want more clarification- I will try to give while discussing on chapter Divine Maya.
