Perfection – Integral Perfection

In a chapter titled “Integral Perfection” (Synthesis of Yoga”) -Sri Aurobindo gives all practical application and methods and all possible questions that we ask before doing that. It was such a wonderful chapter – with all his Good Will for humanity can be felt as soon as we start reading it, particularly when he discusses the inability of the human to get that perfection. If it is combined with “Life Divine Chapter” Destiny of the individual “ it amounts to more understanding.

Some of the thoughts on going through the chapter:

We have to attain perfection in a given situation by higher consciousness by seeing the oneness – accurate perception, psychological perfection and divine clarity on subtle things connecting the vents by endurance. Instead, we try to do that by indifference or submission. Endurance is knowledge. Indifference is ignorance. Submission is error.

What we have to do is, to put our whole conscious being into what we think as part of Divine -Sprit or Mother – and to call to transform our entire being into the Divine one. (In fact we are Divine ourself) to remind us the real person in us or who were are and our purpose of this birth.

Psychologically this will be a progressive surrender of the ego – with its vast opinions, prejudices, preferences, attitudes and its inevitable displays and execution in life. Colossal faith and unflinching patience are its requirement.

The three important points to be noted in making higher working on the lower nature is that:

First, we cannot have a fixed system as in other Indian Yoga methods. It is based on our own freedom with gradually intensive and purposeful working of determined will, with discipline of the temperament and Swabhava of the of the individual.

Secondly, the process should be integral – accepting all our complete nature and compelling all to undergo a change to that of Divine. In this ever-progressive evolution in consciousness, we get the accurate perception on how these lower parts of the being are constituted and that everything in it, what we say as negative, deformed, veil, anti-divine, is actually imperfect side of some element in the Divine.

Thirdly, we should use life as a means to do this integral yoga. Every moment, every happening, every person we come into contact, every thought that arises, every feeling, desires and wanting, every movement of the body however trifling should be is used for this work, to see the corresponding planes and points, connection between the events, our acts, attitudes, and motives. In this way, even the most repellent suffering, becomes a step on the path to perfection. By this we understand the process of evolution that divine intended to form himself as “us” and the “Ananda” we get out of it.

These stages of efforts are ways of self-awareness that we are the divine and we are capable of divine perfection .and therefore of right completion in the individual. It is a gathering up by concentration of the movements dispersed and loosely combined in the involution.

In fact, “All life is yoga” of Divine seeking to manifest within itself, himself. This will give the integral realization that we are the divine being. This realization of the one in its indistinguishable unity with others, in other multitude of aspects is complete knowledge for integral perfection.
