When we see consecration or surrender producing results surrender becomes enjoyable. Sri Karmayogi says it is not happiness; it is Anandha –joy of getting aware of the Divine Mother. This can be seen when the most depressing situations are turned over to Mother, they become situations of the richest emotions ever enjoyed.
Mother says the greatest discovery of Sri Aurobindo is surrender. In creation as well as life, self-affirmation is the law. Man does not surrender unless he is crippled when he abandons himself. At all other times, he seeks self-affirmation-so surrender and consequent happiness and being aware of the Divine is first step of coming out of ego-which is affirming the Divine in him. This enables us to leave the present plane and rise to the next plane. Thus it enables knowledge to emerge out of Ignorance. Hence surrender gives the maximum possible joy and strength which hitherto not experienced.
Sri Karmayogi – it is good to be said “he is a surrendered being”-than as “he is a realized soul”. In daily life it starts with consecrating an act –slowly that ripens into an attitude and then as higher consciousness from which all acts flow. Because now the act is not a submission to any of the need, but a self-giving which gives all and feels happy in giving. By this one grows into successive higher faculties ultimately acquiring all the faculties of that to which we surrender.
Sri Karmayogi says the path to surrender will be from aspiration to concentration to consecration to surrender.
Bhagawan said, “He who chooses the Infinite has already been chosen by the Infinite”. When the Infinite chooses the human soul, aspiration is born. It is enough if we pay attention to that aspiration and that will lead to surrender. The very fact that we came to Mother and Sri Karmayogi and wish follow some of their principles itself proves that we have some sort of aspiration developed which means that we were chosen by the Mother.
That aspiration to follow Mother’s principles will definitely lead to a kind of consciousness or conscious approach to which to some extent can be called as concentration. With that kind of remembrance-to do it for Mother- has an inbuilt consecration in it. Because the path of action and attitude that brought the action is more important for Mother.
Doing it for Mother is a consecrated work and credible because an individual is able to follow the path of the Spirit diligently, while discharging his duties amidst innumerable distractions. Naturally it will have the concentration. It is easy to adapt to start with. Only a change of attitude is necessary for embarking on the divine life by dedicating all actions to Mother. So there are no drastic changes to be made in day to day life except a conscious re-orientation to the Spirit and remembering Mother while performing every action in-stead of doing it for the company, for boss, for friend, for wife, for children etc.
In this way the biggest obstacle for surrender can be overcome. Because any idea, when it is understood is accepted by the mind. But it is not the mind that lives or executes it. It is the vital that lives. If the idea is understood it means that the mind has accepted; whenever mental question arises, the person who has accepted the idea will be able to espouse it. If the person is to live that idea, he must make it acceptable to the vital; make the vital follow what the mind has accepted. In that way we have made our emotions/vital to accept that we have to identify with divine and for that we have to consecrate our work.
