Conciousness Approach

In Consciousness approach to management Sri Karmayogi says, Man has problems to solve as long as he does not understand. In the areas he understands, he ceases to perceive problems and strangely there will be no problems to perceive, i.e. the problems dissolve by the changed perception of man”. Though it seems to be simple English for a quite period of time I could not understand the essence of it, in its true sense.

Recently when I had a chance to meet a business consultant, he just asked how business is. I said it’s good and going smooth, no problems. To my astonishment, he said problems will cease only if we stop growing is a rule of life. Then he asked to tell me of one problem that comes to your mind. I said, the only problems I face is delayed supply of materials that gives idling of labours, but that is usual in this industry.

He laughed and said even the usual problems others face should not come to a devotee. Everything behind the word problem has an opportunity. As you have perceived this as way of life you are levelled off. Think this as a problem and to come out of it by consecrating it to Mother.

I was just wondering how to do this, as I don’t see this as a problem at all- as this is usual for my industry -delay in supply and delay in hand over of site. Nevertheless, I tried to think as a problem for an opportunity to implement a higher value that Mother wants.

At that time I was in contractual terms for a protective coating in an upcoming multispecialty hospital with a material that is not available easily. Every time I have to chase for the delivery of the same from Goa to site at Pondy. But I never thought it as a problem -as it gave only a bit of anxiety and not worry. Though I had same material of another company the promoter didn’t accepted the same as equivalent.

After that consultant’s suggestion, I thought this as a problem and the opportunity should make me to finish at least with better quality, quantity and punctuality-and consecrated all thoughts to Mother.

The next day I got a mail asking me to finish the job before April 1st week as PM has given the date in second week or so for opening of the hospital. (Originally it was scheduled for August). This made them to recognize the product I had stock as equivalent and can be used as protective coating. By this all unsold stock were cleared off within a day, as well it is now abridging all the time delay caused -(due to my thinking that it is usual for industry)- by speeding up the job to finish it before PM visit.

Now I understood what Sri Karmayogi says in toto. Not only that, now can I understand the Life Divine interpretation: “Problems are for the Becoming. Growth opportunities are for the Being of Becoming. Being escapes problems, can avail of growth if it chooses”.
